Just a quick heads-up that the ‘look-back period’ for the Recent Sales page has changed a bit, at least for most entries.
Until today, the earliest sales on that page have been from 2018. (All of the pre-2022 sales are gleaned from auction house results, not from eBay.) However, the page is starting to become a bit unwieldy, despite having a search function and alphabetical jump links, due to many sales of the larger-quantity limited edition pieces. Pip, the Elfin Player is a great example of this.
I considered splitting the page into two (perhaps A-L and M-Z) but that would be very inconvenient for anyone who needs to research more than a couple of sculptures.
At the same time, the overall market value of Cybis porcelains has not changed since the turn of the millenium. This means that a five-year look-back becomes just as useful as a 25-year one. For purposes of insurance claims or real estate market value research, the typical look-back is never more than two years; some companies look back no farther than six months.
For this reason I’ve decided to set the Recent Sales look-back at five years. This will be on a yearly basis, not a monthly one. Thus, all 2020 sales will remain on the page for all of this year (2025) but they will be removed in January 2026. Sales in 2021 will be removed in January 2027, and so on. Sales from 2018 and 2019 were removed today.
However, there is one exception to this new format.
Some limited editions are rarely seen for sale nowadays, and thus all sales of that piece provide valuable information. If there are fewer than four sales recorded for any limited edition, then all entries will remain, no matter how long ago they took place.
I believe that this strikes the best balance between providing useful market value information and keeping the Recent Sales page down to a reasonably navigable size over time.
